About

The Department of English, founded in 1934, has been enriched by several eminent teachers, not the least among them Prof. Rajkumar Chakraborty, after whom the street is now named. Generations of students, many of them arriving from other colleges, were enlightened by his lectures. The illustrious alumni of this department include teachers in many educational institutions. The department is supported by a committed team of teachers renowned for maintaining an uncompromising standard of academic excellence over the years. Every year the department attracts applicants several times the number of available seats. The quality of those finally admitted in the undergraduate programme is commendable. Our students continue to shine in diverse professional fields such as academics, banking, journalism and administration.
