About
In spite of being a relatively young member of Bangabasi College, the Department of Sociology has been successfully able to carve a niche for itself in a short span of time since its inception in 2005. Initially it offered only the general course and the Honours Course was introduced since 2008. The department aims to cultivate analytical and critical thinking among its students and has continuously endeavored to incorporate the most contemporary debates in Sociology in its academic curriculum, often going beyond the prescribed syllabus of the University.

Facilities
- While the traditional method of teaching continues, it is often supplemented with various kinds of practical exposures. Trips are therefore organized for students to outskirts of the city so that students out of these exposure, learn how to relate theory of their books with practical facts that they experience.
- Departmental seminars and debates, attending lectures of various resource persons etc. helps the students to develop a perspective which they would not have attained otherwise.
