With a humble beginning in 1910, the department of Economics had a turning point in the year 1950 (as per the college record) with the introduction of Honours Course. At present the department consists of four full-time teachers. It offers both B.Sc (Hons.) and B.A (Hons.) courses following the curriculum and rules of the University of Calcutta. The teaching experience and academic qualifications of the faculties are adequate in imparting both General and Honours teaching at the UG level. The department has a reputation of high success rates among the Honours students with 1st class marks. Several students, who have graduated from this college with Economics Honours, are now well placed in their lives and the department also cooperates with the ex-students for their career development in future.
